In 1970 after the death of her mother, Mom sold a sixty-acre parcel of land and bought her parents home, in Bountiful, Utah. Someday, she would leave Lake Fork and the lingering memories of work at Shore Lodge Motel. She would miss her friends, but at least her grandchildren would still come visit her over the years and indeed they did. After a particularly long winter, the time arrived.  She hand lettered a sign: “For Sale by Owner, House on Ten Acres,” nailed it to a post at the end of the driveway and two days later she had an offer, not to be refused.  She wrote up a contract, (using an old contract as a guide), with all the legal details, but before it was signed she took it to her lawyer for his approval.  As he finished reading the contract he smiled, handed it back to her, and said “Blanche, I couldn’t have done it better myself.”

After twelve years of going it alone, with only George helping when he could, she sold her property, rented a moving van and moved to Bountiful. It was 1973 and she was sixty-four years old.

The house in Bountiful was small and crowded. Mom started remodeling. If Mom put her mind to a job, nothing would stop her. Early mornings, she pulled on her oldest clothing and covered her gray hair with a bandana. Hands gnarled with arthritis didn’t stop her from wielding a crowbar to pull down the lath and plaster. When she finished with the work she could do, she asked grandsons to build an addition on the house, enlarging the bedroom and the kitchen. Money to buy new furniture, carpets and drapes came from the cash down payment from the sale of her house in Idaho.  Having cash was a new experience for her and she loved choosing new furnishings for her home. The following photo was taken on Grandma Parkin's front steps, of the house Mom bought and moved to in Bountiful...Photo would have been taken in the 50's?...
