John Day...45º Raining

I was up at 3:30am this morning and all thoughts of planting garlic today are on hold as I listen to the sound of a drenching rain, not fun planting in mud.

Many of the residents of Wallowa County , for the past six years, in January & February have immersed themselves in the "Big Read"...2012's book is "Joy luck Club" by Amy Tan...The planning committee is already hard at work planning activities for next year, hence the trip to John Day and the "Kam Wah Chung Museum".

Joseph to John Day is a 400 mile round trip...Two car loads of people left Wallowa County about 7am and arrived in John Day at 11am...Time for us to tour the interpretive center, learning about early Chinese History of Eastern Oregon...Then we had time for a quick lunch and visit to the Farmers Market in progress just off main street, before our scheduled tour of the "Kam Wah Chung Museum", the Main purpose of our trip...The following web sites give good overall info about Ing Hay or"Doc" Hay and Lung On or "Leon" as they became known... Make sure you view the OPB clip included in the second link.  http://gesswhoto.com/chung.html & http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_8.php

Our trip was long but the company was good, as we visited and became better acquainted with friends and neighbors...We arrived back in Wallowa County before 7pm after a hectic but fun day packed with information about Oregon history...OWAV:)
